Held this month at the upcoming CES show, BMW will bring their latest research findings in lighting technology. According to reports, the German manufacturer will showcase the concept of OLED Organic Light-based technology, and intelligent version of the laser headlight systems.
We all know,
OLED is a branch of LED, the light source is a hydrocarbon chain organic thin film material, rather than a semiconductor with heavy metals. This design brings more evenly light divisions, but also very energy efficient. However, due to lack of brightness, most existing OLED can not become a substitute LED headlights and brake lights of the car, so they are mainly used for taillights.
BMW seems to be very interested in OLED technology. In the last year, they show off the concept called Vision Future Luxury, and in this month's CES show, they also bring their own additional research results.
Laser headlights on the i8 hybrid sports car debut of the technology, which allows maximum 600 meters lighting range. In this CES show, BMW will showcase this technology in conjunction with cameras, sensors and driver assistance functions, which is the so-called "smart laser headlight system."
