I am your eye: virtual reality technology with robot

In this age of virtual reality technology continues to develop, we have the game and the movie more interesting interaction. But in addition to the virtual environment to communicate with the outside, this technology combined with real-world environment is also a very wide range of uses, telepresence robot DORA is such a product.

The equipment consists of researchers from the University of Pennsylvania to develop, allowing the robot exactly match the user wears glasses head movement, and the use of remote cameras to capture what is happening around, so the glasses wearer movement can look around 360 degrees in all directions . Even sitting at home can freely tour the outside environment.

The imaging device is currently only 30 frames per second, the delay in about 70 milliseconds, than the mainstream market of virtual reality equipment performance much worse, partly because of the need to control the robot using a wireless network connection, too long distances can cause signal delays, In addition to the mechanical response speed will be some impact.

But the system is still in the research stage, there have a lot of room for improvement. Once the experiment is successful, the potential of such robots would be amazing. It will help people with disabilities deal with many matters, so that visitors to a novel way to explore museums and art galleries around the world, even in dangerous expeditions and rescue operations can also play a key role.
