70 % of waste laptop battery is sufficient to power the LED lights

According to statistics, the world will produce annually about 50 million lithium-ion laptop battery scrap, which is undoubtedly a major threat to the ecological environments. But IBM researchers recently discovered a way to use these batteries: they found that many of them are still used laptop batteries contain usable battery cell, can be used for home lighting power.

The researchers found that 70 percent of waste laptop battery is sufficient to power the LED lights. They will be used batteries disassembled, removed still usable battery cell, and then use a number of additional (battery cells) to produce a complete battery pack. If the power supply four hours a day for the LED lights, these battery packs can provide a year of life.

In early tests, the researchers to Bangalore, India, five residents of this battery pack used in the slums or sidewalk lighting. The test was very successful, and the upgraded version of the battery pack is also already begun to accept testing.
